Abstract
The hypothesis that those who are aware of psychologic distress are less likely to experience parapsychiatric events (psychosocial predicaments) was not confirmed. The data showed that the experience of such psychosocial events is an alternative way of expressing psychological disorder. The rate of parapsychiatric events in those who did not consult a psychiatrist was inversely related to social class position—the lower the position, the higher the rate. In brief, the study showed that a significant proportion of the population under study suffered psychological distress which was expressed in a way which did not bring them to the standard psychiatric resources, either public or private.
