Drowsiness Due to Chlorpromazine in Relation to Cigarette SmokingA Report From the Boston Collaborative Drug Surveillance Program
Chester Swett, Jr., MD
Arch Gen Psychiatry. 1974;31(2):211-213.
Abstract
The frequency of drowsiness attributed to orally administered chlorpromazine hydrochloride was compared among 130 nonsmokers and 201 "light" and 72 "heavy" cigarette smokers. Drowsiness occurred in 16%, 11%, and 3%, respectively. More rapid metabolism of chlorpromazine in cigarette smokers may explain these findings.
