From Person Into Patient is a small monograph describing "A Mental Health Study" conducted at the Mental Hygiene Clinic of the University of Michigan. The research was done under the Fulbright program, which permitted Dr. De Smit, a Dutch physician, to spend three years in the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Michigan. The preface to the monograph was written by Dr. A. Querido, Professor of Social Medicine at the University of Amsterdam. The foreward was written by Dr. M. Ross, former Medical Director of the American Psychiatric Association and presently Fulbright Professor and Research Scholar in the Netherlands.
The monograph is divided into two major sections. The first section is devoted to theoretical issues. Here the author presents an overview of mental health care in Holland and the United States.
