There are 35 selections in this publication from some 30 contemporary psychologists. Many of the selections are reprinted from psychological journals or public addresses from 1944 to the present. The contribution of this text is its organization of related articles on current theory making in one volume. Although this volume is dedicated to the student of psychology, most of the articles are at the level of the contemporary psychologist, and there are at least two chapters (chapter III on Mathematical and Statistical Models) which call heavily for a strong mathematical background.

The selections are organized and follow a sequence which is designed to introduce the reader to current theory making in psychology. Part I is dedicated to the problem of theory construction; part II is concerned with special problems of theory making; part III is concerned with theory making in various fields of study.
