Guides to Psychiatric Rehabilitation is the detailed, easy to read report of a unique rehabilitation program established for state mental hospital patients and expatients. Three separate agencies cooperated in the program, viz, a private agency (a community philanthropic organization that operates a sheltered workshop and is dedicated to the rehabilitation of persons suffering from a wide range of disabilities), a State Vocational Rehabilitation organization, and a large state mental hospital.

In expertly planned and integrated teamwork that lasted for three years, a multitude of experiences, positive and negative, were collected and evaluated. The project demonstrated a broad spectrum approach toward the rehabilitation of psychiatric patients and included, in addition to the amelioration of clinical psychopathology, their successful transition from the hospital environment to a statisfactory functioning in the community.
