Psychopharmacology, as the name implies, is a multidisciplinary subject and it utilizes the experimental methods of many scientific disciplines. The wide variability in approach, methods, and terminology employed in different countries and within the same country makes the comparison and interpretation of results rather difficult. The organizers of the Symposium on the Effects of Psychotropic Drugs on Higher Nervous Activity held in Prague from Oct 30-Nov 2, 1961, served a very useful purpose in bringing together specialists from different countries to reach a better understanding through free discussion and exchange of ideas. The book Psychopharmacological Methods edited by Votava, Horváth, and Vinar consists of a collection of the papers presented at the above symposium. The papers number about 36 and cover a wide range of topics with emphasis on fundamental problems of methodology.
