Introduction

THE ORGANIC Integrity Test (OIT) was first published in the ARCHIVES OF GENERAL PSYCHIATRY (3:43-52 (July) 1960) by Tien.¹⁰ This test measures form perception as an indication of organicity as unrelated to intelligence. Astrom confirmed the reliability and the validity of the OIT in Sweden (1963),¹ and Engelsmann confirmed it in Czechoslovakia. Astrom stated that "Tien has, therefore, to great extent succeeded with that which many other test constructors before him have completely or partially failed to; that is, to produce an organic test which is relatively unrelated to intelligence." There is no reasonable doubt that the OIT measures organicity in adults. Astrom has compared to advantage the OIT with Benton's Visual Retention Test,² Koh's Blocks, and the performance tests of Wechsler for organicity.
