Mrs. Satir, a psychiatric social worker, who functions as the Director of Training in the Family Project of the Mental Research Institute of Palo Alto, Calif, has written this monograph as "a guide to theory and technique of conjoint family therapy." The book is divided into three parts: (1) family theory, (2) communication theory, and (3) theory and practice of theory. Although much thought and energy has gone into the writing of this book, the book fails to hold the reader's interest since it is written entirely in outline form. It could possibly serve as a reference book for people interested in the field of family therapy, but, even for those interested, the format will prove a major obstacle.
