AT LAST what psychiatry has long needed now appears on the printed page in a magnificently written and published volume (The Theory and Practice of Psychiatry).1 The authors are to be Congratulated and given our gratitude. The time, energy, and thought put into this single volume are prodigious and the product is superb. The volume is divided into 26 chapters; at the end of each are references cited in the text totaling 1,674, all of which are significant for more intensive study of each topic. Both the name and subject indexes are detailed enough to make easy reference to selected portions of the text. The format and type facilitate easy reading of the excellent writing of the authors who abstain from jargon or semantic confusion.
