The papers presented in this slim volume are based on a series of lectures given during 1964 and 1965, and on some research conducted by members of the faculty in the Institute for Social Research and the Department of Sociology at Florida State University. The editors are identified as faculty members of Florida State University. Miller is a research associate in the Institute for Social Research and associate professor of Psychology. Grigg is the Director of the Institute for Social Research.
The editors' contribution to this work are two. They give a brief introduction and Miller contributes a chapter. What we really have here are seven essentially unrelated papers strung together because they all touch (sometimes very lightly) on the topic of mental health in the lower class.
