THE STUDY of small groups has lately grown in importance for psychiatry. Group psychotherapy techniques have proved to be one of the most rewarding tools for the treatment of mental diseases. The therapeutic community has even modified the structure of psychiatric hospitals. The study of the family as a group is one of the most promising fields in the investigation of schizophrenia pathogenesis.

All this leads to the search for objective methods to study the multiple variables present in group phenomena. With this in mind, we have devised a "Marbles Test"1-5 designed for the study of various kinds of small groups. As only a small amount of verbalization is needed, it can be used with . . .
