This book is divided into three main sections, each containing about five chapters describing mental health programs in the state of Vermont. The first two parts, entitled "Local Programs" and "Area Programs," respectively describe projects to which Dr. Hans Huessy, the editor, has consulted over some years. The third section contains articles on innovations in state programs, primarily at the Vermont State Hospital.
It is in the first two sections that this book makes its mark. These ten chapters, written for the most part by participants in the actual programs themselves, are exemplars of the subtitle, "Yankee Ingenuity in Low Cost Programs." Interested persons in Vermont communities applied the very limited local resources strategically to meet local needs.
