In the present volume Dr. Polatin admirably succeeds in his stated purpose, ... to present as succinctly as possible all acceptable treatment methods, old and new, in the hope that such a guide might be useful as a handy reference for the beginning specialist . . . for those who wish to review methods of treatment for the specialty board examination, and for those in all of the ancillary fields who seek understanding of psychiatric treatment. After a brief historical introduction and a discussion of the "therapeutic team," the American Psychiatric Association's classification of psychiatric disturbance is presented. The psychiatric history and mental status examination is discussed. The remainder, and greatest portion of the book, concentrates first on the various types of treatment modalities presently extant, and then on the specific treatment of each diagnostic category.
