Actually the title of this book is somewhat misleading. What it contains is a series of articles culled from the journal Psychiatry over twenty years of its publication. One-third of these papers were written more than a decade ago. The editor, who is also editor of Psychiatry, made her choice on the basis that the selections best represented the particular province of that journal—"that zone where psychological, biological, and social sciences come together . . . characterized by its broad concern with man as a thinking, feeling, and behaving social animal." The selections are grouped under four major sections each being a major focus of this broad area: Values and Philosophy; Psychiatry and Culture; Schizophrenia, and Clinical and Therapeutic.
