Introduction

This paper will endeavor to confirm and promote further the gradually increasing evidence for optimism in the treatment and successful rehabilitation of chronic schizophrenics.^1-6 It will report on a dynamic program, its method of operation, and the results obtained one year later that prompted the author to feel far more hopeful about the outcome of schizophrenia than heretofore.

Any institutional psychiatrist familiar with "back-ward" scenes of yesteryear cannot help but feel the need for modification and reorientation of his views relating to the potentialities of chronic schizophrenics to become totally rehabilitated socially and vocationally, according to the results obtained with our chronic schizophrenic population.
