It was very kind of Dr Jones and Dr Weiner to take the trouble to write their opinions and comments, and Dr Jones very nicely pointed out how one may rediagnose as the psychopathologic picture becomes clarified; in fact, Dr Jones does a better job of it in a brief letter than I could do, and I found his other comments worthy of some deep thought. In response to his question, the topic of payment came up as mentioned in the case report, but not otherwise.

I do not believe that the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder in this patient using DSM-III would pose any problem once she began to let her guard down after the first couple of sessions. She showed the significant features, but because my article concentrated on the psychotherapy, I did not offer extensive clinical descriptive material. The issue of how to make the diagnosis in . . .
