Whatever they provoke in discussion, the full results of the rich database have yet to be reported. In noting the importance of the project as a major effort in psychotherapy research,¹ I had used the term "pilot," borrowed from the authors' original description² of their aims. No pejorative use of that honorific term was intended. "Bets" must be made in designing any project. It is not a negative observation that today the need for studies of combined drug and psychotherapy or of relapse and maintenance treatments is of central interest. Good research is never finished in that its service is to heighten interest in methodologic refinements and "next steps"—as the project clearly has already done. —DXF. . . .
