In this book the author has, as he states in the preface, provided the reader with descriptions of play-therapy techniques and rationales upon which they are based. The author has drawn from his experience as a child therapist and supervisor and teacher of child therapy in the writing of this volume.

The title suggests that the focus is that of treatment of children in groups. However, there is much in the content that is of value to the reader primarily interested in individual treatment of the emotionally disturbed child.

The first three chapters deal primarily with the group: discussion of the theory of group play-therapy, selection and composition of the group. The following five chapters are less focused on the group.
